Serino Brings Information Directly to Community to Help Combat Lyme Disease

Hosts Successful Lyme Disease Community Forum

HYDE PARK, NY—With tick season in full swing, Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) brought critical information necessary to prevent the spread of Lyme and tick-borne diseases directly to members of the local community. The community forum hosted by Serino, who Chairs the NYS Senate Taskforce on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases, was held at the Wallace Center of the FDR site on Tuesday, June 30^th.

“When it comes to Lyme and tick-borne diseases, information is power and that information is constantly evolving,” said Senator Serino. “No matter how much you think you know, there’s always more to learn. If we want to stop the spread of Lyme and tick-borne diseases, we need to take proactive steps, raise awareness, increase access to important information and bring it directly to the community.”

The packed event, included presentations by experts who provided tips and resources for preventing the spread of these diseases and featured time for the audience to ask questions of the panelists.

“Too often I hear that actually finding necessary resources on these issues is a real challenge,” Serino continued. “Bringing these panelists together, under one roof, offers a unique opportunity to not only raise awareness for the severity of the issue, but to provide unparalleled access to the information our communities need to safeguard their families, their pets and themselves. The hope is that they will take the information, share it with their friends and family and keep that momentum going.”

Senator Serino concluded by saying, “One of my goals as Chair of the Taskforce on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases, is to bring the conversation on Lyme to the mainstream and to empower New Yorkers by arming them with the information they need to stay tick free. Tonight’s community forum was a major step in the right direction and I thank all those who helped make it a success.”
