SERINO TO CREATE COMPREHENSIVE DATABASE FOR ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIA
ALBANY, NY—Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) announced that her bill to create a program database for individuals suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease passed through Committee earlier this morning.
Serino, the newly appointed chair of the Senate Committee on Aging noted the bill’s significance saying, “As the Aging Chair, my goal is to empower New York Seniors and increasing access to critical information is one of the real ways we can do that.”
Specifically, the bill (S. 3968), will create an easily identified program database on the State Office for the Aging website with up-to-date and carefully vetted information on program, methodologies, and services provided statewide for persons suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease and their caretakers.
“By creating a comprehensive database, we are putting the tools and resources directly at the fingertips of the people who need it most,” said Serino. “The bill has the potential to improve the lives of countless New Yorkers suffering from these debilitating disorders and I am confident that my colleagues in both houses will recognize the significance in passing this legislation.”
The bill is sponsored in the Assembly by the Chair of their Aging Committee, Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz (D—Brooklyn).
