Serino Secures Critical Funding for Infrastructure

SERINO SECURES CRITICAL FUNDING FOR INFRASTRUCTURE

ALBANY, NY— Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) proudly announced today that the new State Budget for 2015-16 includes over $3.6 million to repair and replace local highways, roads and bridges. The funding comes as part of the $438 million allocated through the Consolidated Local Streets and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) and $50 million dedicated to addressing the damage caused by this year’s severe winter weather.

“Local roads and bridges play a critical role in our communities and keeping our infrastructure well maintained is vital to personal safety and it’s vital to our economy,” said Senator Serino. “With this commitment, we have sent a clear message—local roads matter.”

Since taking office, securing funding for improving local infrastructure has been a high priority for Serino who, in March, signed on to a letter to explicitly requesting additional funding be allocated to CHIPS in this year’s budget. Shortly thereafter, she joined hundreds of town and county highway superintendents and elected officials at a press conference in Albany to stress the importance of this crucial funding.

“Since taking office I have met with highway superintendents in numerous municipalities to hear first-hand about their needs,” said Senator Serino. “It was made incredibly clear that this year’s severe winter weather has caused unprecedented damage and this funding will go a long way in helping our localities make necessary improvements without overburdening our hardworking taxpayers.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to secure funding that I know will be able to deliver real results,” Serino concluded.
