SERINO WARNS AREA SENIORS TO BEWARE OF TARGETED SCAMS

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY— As the holiday seasons draw near, Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park), wants area seniors to have the tools they need to avoid targeted scams and identity theft.  For that reason, she held a successful Senior Scam Prevention Seminar at the Tri-Town American Legion in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday, December 8th. 

Senator Serino, Chair of the Senate’s Aging Committee, hosted the free program in conjunction with the NYS Dept. of State who gave a comprehensive presentation on how seniors can avoid prominent and lesser-known scams.

“Recently, I have experienced suspicious behavior in our own community and my district office has even received phone calls from individuals claiming to be from the IRS—a clear indication of a scam in progress,” said Senator Sue Serino.

“Information is power and I want to arm our seniors with the information they need to proactively protect their identity and avoid becoming the victim of a scam—especially during the holiday season when they may be particularly vulnerable.”

The event’s location, the Tri-Town American Legion, functions as a Senior Friendship Center where local seniors can go from Monday-Thursday for a nutritious meal and various activities. The Senior Friendship Centers across the county are operated by the Dutchess County Office for the aging. For more information, click here.
