LEWISBORO, NY - With back to school commercials in full effect, Senator Terrence Murphy announced more than $25,000 in construction grants for local public libraries in the 40th Senate District.
"There is a clear correlation between educational success and a strong library system," Senator Murphy said. "As a father of three kids, I know firsthand how important it is to support our local libraries, and I am thrilled to announce three of the 40th Senate District's libraries have been awarded construction grants to improve their facilities."
Released earlier today, the Lewisboro Library, Brewster Public Library and the Beekman Library have all received state grants to upgrade their individual facilities. The Lewisboro Library will be installing equipment to connect to the town's generator to provide emergency power at the library. The Brewster Public Library will be repairing and insulating its roof while the Beekman Library will install automatic doors at its entrance.
In all, 182 libraries across the State received funding through State's Public Library Construction Grant totaling nearly $14 million.
