SENATOR CROCI’S HISTORIC SANDY VICTIM LEGISLATION IS NOW LAW
Governor Cuomo Signs the New York Rising Accountability Act
Hauppauge, NY – The New York Rising Accountability Act, sponsored by New York State Senator Thomas Croci (R-C-I, Sayville), has been signed by Governor Cuomo. The bill was overwhelmingly approved by both houses of the Legislature this past session.
“I applaud the Governor for recognizing the significant impact of this legislation for families devastated by Sandy. This is a tremendous victory for every Sandy victim in New York State and a demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to improve transparency, public accountability, and effective management of government,” stated Senator Croci. “My office has been in daily contact with Sandy disaster victims and we have heard over and over the difficulties they have had trying to navigate the requirements of New York Rising to receive the disaster funds they are due. They are frustrated and tired. I look forward to working with the Governor to advance the remaining disaster funds to victims and to community reconstruction projects so that Long Island will be more resilient and better prepared for future storms,” Senator Croci said.
The bill, S4694A/A7204A, requires the Governor, in cooperation with the commissioner of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, and the executive director of the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery, to produce and deliver to the Legislature a quarterly report detailing the status of all Sandy claims for disaster assistance pending before, or being assisted by, the Governor and/or the New York Rising Program.
