SENATOR CROCI’S STATEMENT REGARDING THE REPEAL OF SANCTUARY CITY LAWS
Senator Croci’s Legislation Aims to Create the NY CARES Act
“In the wake of the emergence of ISIS and growing signs of domestic radicalization, New York must give law enforcement every tool it can to keep our communities safe. I recently introduced legislation (S6032) to create the New Yorkers Combating Alien Recidivism and Ending Sanctuary (NY CARES) Act. The purpose of this legislation is to allow local law enforcement the ability to respect the federal immigration laws by repealing sanctuary city policies, such as the one in New York City. Our federal immigration laws must followed because they are there to protect us. This bill serves to ensure that local governments, such as New York City, do not adopt law or policy which serves to impede or interfere with the enforcement of federal immigration laws. Balancing civil liberties with public safety is paramount and the focus of this bill is on those that are in our country illegally who wish to do us harm,” stated Senator Croci.
