Senator Stavisky Attends Allison Hope Liao Street Co-naming Unveiling Ceremony

Allison Hope Liao was only three years old when she was fatally struck by a turning vehicle. Her and her grandmother, who was holding little Allison's hand, had been walking at the cross street and had the right-of-way when the SUV hit her. Last week, Allison was honored by local officials with a street co-naming at the intersection she died. 

“There are no words to explain the grief felt when a parent loses a child; especially a child as young as Allison Hope Liao,” State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (D-Flushing) said. “There is nothing I can say to reverse what happened to a little girl and her grandmother as they crossed the street. But we must make it a point to remember Allison and how preventable her death was. Pedestrians should not feel they are putting their lives on the line when they cross the street. With this street sign, we remember Allison, but we also remind ourselves of the terrible consequences of reckless driving. We must create safer roads for both drivers and pedestrians, so that what happened to Allison – and the hundreds of other people who died in New York City traffic – does not happen again.”
