(QUEENS, NY) Today, State Senator Tony Avella announced that applications are now being accepted by the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators for four available 2015 scholarships.
The $2,500 scholarships, which have been increased from last year’s amount of $2,000, will be awarded to four students who are currently in college or preparing to enter this year. Two scholarships will be awarded to students for academic excellence and two for athletics.
Winners will be chosen based on grade point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in their local community and individual financial need. The scholarships will be handed out to the four chosen students at the Italian Day Fiesta on June 8th.
“While the price of higher education continues to rise, it is important that we provide as much assistance as possible to students looking to invest in their future. The New York Conference of Italian-American Legislators prides itself in helping do just that. These scholarships will help four students realize the dream of going to college and go on to become successful individuals, and I urge students in my Senatorial District to apply today,” said Senator Avella.
To obtain an application, contact Senator Avella’s District Office at 718-357-3094. Completed applications must be submitted to Senator Avella’s office by April 27th.
