Statement by Senator Tony Avella on the Passage of Women's Equality Package
January 12, 2015
“Today we sent a clear message that women’s rights are a priority for New York State. Each of these protections have been long overdue, and I am proud to have cosponsored and voted in favor of all eight. Under this legislation, we can end human trafficking, ensure equal pay for equal work, enhance protections for domestic violence victims, fight sexual harassment in the workplace, and end discrimination when it comes to employment, housing and credit. However, we must note the absence of the crucial recognition of a woman’s right to choose. Until we have officially recognized this right, our agenda cannot be fully celebrated.”
