Albany, NY - Senator William Larkin (R-C Cornwall-on-Hudson) issued the following statement on the State Assembly’s decision to follow the Senate’s lead in passing legislation ensuring of equal pay for equal work.
“This year, the Senate demonstrated our commitment to equal pay for equal work by passing Senate bill one on the very first day of session” Larkin said. “Senate bill one, ensures that hardworking women in the Hudson Valley have the opportunity to earn the same wage as their male counterparts and ensure that equal pay for equal work is finally a reality in New York.”
Larkin noted that other planks of the Senate’s Women’s Equality Agenda which have already passed the Senate have not yet been taken up by the Assembly.
“The new leadership in the Assembly has shown they are ready to put people ahead of politics by passing the Senate’s legislation combating human trafficking and ensure pay equity. Work remains to be done in order to end sexual harassment in the work place, gender discrimination in employment, housing and credit decisions.”
