Leader Stewart-Cousins Selects Cheryl Lynn Brannan of Yonkers as the 35th District's 2016 Woman of Distinction

Albany, NY - Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins selected Cheryl Lynn Brannan of Yonkers, the President of Brannan Solutions Group and the founder and CEO of Sister to Sister International, Inc., as the 35th Senate District’s 2016 Woman of Distinction. The recognition is given to outstanding women living and working in New York State, whose contributions have greatly enriched the quality of life in their communities and beyond. The award, sponsored by the New York State Senate, was bestowed during a ceremony in Albany on May 10th.
“Cheryl Brannan has dedicated her life to creating greater opportunities for women around the world and has empowered women, especially minorities, to live healthier and more productive lives” said Leader Stewart-Cousins. “I’m proud to nominate her to represent our community as this year’s Woman of Distinction and thank her advocacy for women in Westchester and throughout the world.”
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from Leader Stewart-Cousins,” said Ms. Brannan. “It is very special for me to receive this award from Leader Stewart-Cousins who has been a trailblazer for women in our community – and because of our shared beliefs and commitment to empowering future generations of women.”
Driven by a passion for promoting women’s empowerment, Cheryl Brannan has been an advocate for women and girls globally for over 30 years. As President of the Brannan Solutions Group, a multi-faceted consulting firm, she specializes in the elimination of health disparities in communities of color, as well as women’s empowerment, STEM education, strategic management and social responsibility. Her not-for-profit organization, Sister to Sister International, connects women, girls and families of African descent with a network of hundreds of women from diverse backgrounds including grassroots, professionals, entrepreneurs, elected officials, students and activists from around the globe.
Ms. Brannan is a life-long resident of the city of Yonkers. She and Lloyd Douglas are the proud parents of Sayidana Lynn Brannan Douglas, a college student enrolled in the Women in Science and Engineering Program at Stony Brook University.
