Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins Delivers Keynote Address at Today’s Students-Tomorrow’s Teachers Recognition Brunch

Purchase, NY – Today, New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a former teacher, gave the keynote address at Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) Recognition Brunch at Manhattanville College. Stewart Cousins praised TSTT and spoke about the importance of preparing the next generation of teachers so our education system can thrive.

“We are fortunate to have such a special organization rooted in our community that offers incredible opportunities for our students and now those throughout America,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins. “Educating the next generation of New Yorkers is a powerful task and I applaud you all for having the courage to step into this role.” 

TSTT is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. With the support of school districts, colleges, corporations and communities, TSTT has grown from seven students in one Westchester County, New York high school to nearly 880 participants, including: 430 high school students in four states, 350 college students across the United States and 150 teachers in nine states who serve as role models in their communities. We have 21 partnering colleges that have agreed to assist in supporting TSTT students throughout their college education with a minimum 50% tuition scholarship.

Founded in Westchester County, TSTT is now a nationwide school-based mentoring program that recruits and mentors culturally diverse and economically challenged high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching. TSTT provides financial assistance for students to attend college, and places them as teachers and leaders who will inspire and strengthen their communities.

Senator Stewart-Cousins concluded, “As we stand here today, united in our commitment to educating future generations, I will continue to fight to improve our state’s education system and empower our current and future teachers. This includes rebuilding our school’s crumbling infrastructure, investing in community schools, providing vital state aid and reforming how our state measures student performance and evaluates educators to ensure a fairer and more successful public education system.”
