Tarrytown, NY - Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins led a discussion regarding 2016’s most pressing legislative developments with the JCC on the Hudson’s Men’s Club, a group comprised of senior men and women who convene at the JCC on a weekly basis.
The club’s members engage in intellectually stimulating conversations and regularly host prominent speakers, including business executives, elected officials, and professionals from all walks of life.
Senator Stewart-Cousins opened the discussion with a brief history of her career in public service to lend context to her legislative goals and political priorities. The dialogue then shifted to topics of importance to both the Senator and the club, including fracking, taxes, education, and ethics reform.
“We’ve achieved great things this legislative session,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins. “We’ve cut personal income tax rates for middle class New Yorkers to the lowest they’ve been in seventy years and we’ve increased school funding significantly. No discussion of the State would be complete without mentioning the dire need to pass ethics reform legislation. The Senate Democratic Conference has led the effort to push common sense measures like stripping corrupt officials of their taxpayer-funded pensions and limiting outside income for elected representatives. My conference stands strong in our commitment to hold the State to a greater degree of accountability and transparency.”
A lengthy question-and-answer session followed Stewart-Cousin’s talk, but the Senator engaged in a back-and-forth with the seniors throughout her initial speech, encouraging them to offer their opinions and answering any questions they had about the State’s work.
