Senator Brad Hoylman Says It's Time to End Moonlighting by Albany Legislators

NEW YORK -- State Senator Brad Hoylman (D-Manhattan), the prime sponsor of legislation (S.34) that would limit outside income for state legislators, released the following statement in response to Governor Andrew Cuomo's remarks on Monday that limiting outside income for state lawmakers was a top priority for the 2017 legislative session.

"Governor Cuomo is right. New Yorkers deserve to have legislators in Albany who work for them, and them alone. The ability for lawmakers to moonlight on their legislative job and earn significant amounts of money on the side at best looks bad to the public and at worst facilitates conflicts of interest. I'm looking forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues in the Senate and Assembly to pass this and other ethics reforms when we return to Albany in January."

Senator Hoylman is the prime sponsor of legislation (S.34) that would limit outside income for state legislators to 15% of their base salary, and ban moonlighting for certain types of professions involving a fiduciary duty like attorneys, physicians or investment brokers.
