Senator Carlucci and Briarcliff Pediatric Dentistry Host Free Dental Exam and Fluoride Treatment
February 9, 2016
Briarcliff, NY- (2/9/16) - Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) partnered with Dr. Renuka Bijoor of Briarcliff Pediatric Dentistry to hold free dental exams and fluoride treatments for children 18 and younger on Friday, February 5th as part of National Children's Dental Health.
According to the Center for Disease Control Division of Oral Health, 13% of adolescents aged 12 to 19 years have at least one untreated decayed tooth. For children aged 5 to 11 years, that number jumps to 20%. Making healthy choices now is crucial to ensuring a healthy future, but unfortunately for many people access to quality dental care can be difficult to obtain.
National Children’s Dental Health month, sponsored by the American Dental Association, is a month long campaign designed to bring together dental professionals, healthcare providers, and educators from across the country to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many throughout the community.
Over the course of the day, over 25 patients stopped by Briarcliff Pediatric Dentistry to get a free dental exam and fluoride treatment.
“Keeping up on brushing and flossing will not only give you a bright smile, but also lead to a healthier life,” said Senator David Carlucci. “It is so important for parents to educate their children on the importance of good oral health, and throughout National Children’s Dental Health Month we plan to do just that. Thank you Dr. Bijoor and her dedicated staff at Briarcliff Pediatric Dentistry for the work they do every day to give our children a smile they can be proud of.”
“Preventative oral health care is the best thing you could do to ensure that your child has a lifetime of good health. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child's first dental visit should be at the age of one, to establish a “dental home”. To honor our commitment to preventative care, every year we open our doors to the community for a whole day of free exams, cleanings, and fluoride treatment. Thank you, Senator Carlucci, for partnering with us this year to spread the message of early and preventative oral care for infants and children," said Dr. Renuka Bijoor, Briarcliff Pediatric Dentistry.
