Albany, NY – (5/17/16) – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced that the State Senate formally recognized the members and coaching staff of the Ossining Pride Women’s Varsity Basketball Team in the Senate Chamber this afternoon.
The team, coached for the last twenty five years by Head Coach Dan Ricci, finished this season with a 28-2 record and won their first ever New York State Federation Championship Title, beating Long Island Lutheran High School 64-54. The Pride also won their fourth consecutive Class AA championship, beating Shenendehowa High School 69-66. Following the season, Coach Ricci was awarded the Journal News’ Westchester/Putnam coach of the year for the second straight year, as well as coach of the year by USA Today High School Sports.
The team also received a tour of the State Capitol building and were recognized with an official Senate Resolution honoring their achievement and sportsmanship.
“From the opening game of the season to the federation championship, this team exemplified the qualities we want to see in our student athletes. On and off the court, they strive for excellence and I couldn’t be prouder of their victories as well as the positive impact they have had on the Ossining community. I commend all the members of the team, as well as the coaching staff for their achievements and look forward to next season,” said Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester).
“We thank Senator Carlucci for having our Girls' Basketball team recognized in Albany as State and Federation Champions. This dedicated group of girls has worked extremely hard this year both on and off the court. We are very proud of all they have accomplished,” said Ray Sanchez, Superintendent of the Ossining Union Free School District.
