March 17, 2016
Senator George Amedore and Assemblyman Peter Lopez passed a Legislative resolution (J.4217/K.1044) this week recognizing Windham-Ashland-Jewett student Aidan Cohane for winning the 2016 New York State Overall Men’s Alpine Skiing Championship.
“Aidan is an inspiring young man, and it was a pleasure to welcome him and his classmates to the Capitol and recognize him for his outstanding athletic achievement,” said Senator Amedore. “Aidan Cohane made the school and the entire community so proud earlier this year. He has a bright future ahead of him and it was an honor to congratulate him and wish him much success in his future endeavors.”
“I’m very proud of Aidan and his accomplishments. He reflects the best of all we can hope for as we raise young men and women to become not only good citizens, but future leaders,” said Assemblyman Peter Lopez.
Aidan Cohan won the 2016 New York State Overall Men’s Alpine Skiing Championship, held the weekend of February 22nd-23rd at Whiteface Mountain, with an exceptional time of 1:31.17. Cohane is a five-time Section IV Overall Male Champion, as well as a Slalom and Giant Slalom Champion. He is undefeated in regular season competition since 2012 and led his team to the first and only state title in school history.
In addition to skiing, Aidan is active in three other varsity sports, and has earned All-State recognition in both skiing and baseball, and All-Delaware League in soccer and golf.
Cohane was honored in the Chambers of both the Senate and Assembly, along with members of Windham-Ashland-Jewitt’s Student Council and Mock Trial teams who visited the Capitol on Thursday.
