STATEMENT FROM SENATOR GEORGE AMEDORE ON NEW NY BROADBAND INITIATIVE

Affordable, accessible high-speed internet is a necessity for New York’s families and businesses, and it’s vital to the success and prosperity of our region. It’s crucial for education, economic development and job creation, and the health and safety of our residents, but so many communities throughout the 46th Senate district remain without it.
 

One of my priorities during the last budget process was to include $500 million to expand broadband access for underserved and un-served areas throughout Upstate New York. Today’s announcement that we are moving forward to implement those funds, combined with the Public Service Commission’s approval of the Time Warner/Charter merger, gets us one step closer to the goal of providing broadband access for every New Yorker. This is great news for so many communities that desperately need it.
