As the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Libraries, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) informs constituents Saturday, Feb. 6th, is designated asTake Your Child to the Library Day. The day promotes spending time with your family and utilizing the many services local libraries have to offer.
“This is a wonderful way to commemorate our libraries. There are some 750 public libraries in New York State, with a total of about 7,000 libraries when academic, school and special libraries are included. There are 20 public libraries and three library systems which serve communities in my 49th Senatorial District. Each year, I meet with local library officials to hear their concerns and get their input. Libraries are very important to our communities and our State. They provide educational services and opportunities to people of all ages,” Senator Farley said.
Whether you are learning to read, doing a school project, advancing your education, learning new skills, seeking a job, pursuing your hobbies and interests, seeking access to the Internet or simply looking for a good book to read, libraries offer a wide variety of resources and services to the public, Senator Farley said.
