Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate passed his “American Made Flag Act” legislation, which would require all American flags used by the State and local governments to be 100 percent made in America.
“Buying American flags from another country sends a terrible message to workers and businesses here at home. When the government flies the American flag, our country’s most sacred symbol, that flag should be made by American businesses with American workers. This would ensure that state and local tax dollars spent on American flags stay in America,” said Senator Martins.
Senator Martins’ legislation (S288A) would require all U.S. flags purchased by New York State and local governments and flown at state and local government buildings to be 100 percent American made.
Several states have adopted laws requiring the use of domestically made flags, including Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
The legislation has been sent to the Assembly.
