Senator Martins Announces State Funding for Great Neck Village’s LED Street Lighting Project

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured $250,000 in state funding for the Village of Great Neck to undertake an environmentally friendly street lighting project.

    The Village of Great Neck will be using the state funds to replace 636 current street lighting fixtures throughout the Village with LED fixtures.  According to the Village, replacing its existing lighting with LED lighting will provide an estimated savings of over $500,000 over a ten year period.  Additionally, LED lighting is more environmentally friendly, emitting fewer greenhouse gases than traditional lighting.  Work on the project is expected to begin in the middle of 2016 and last for approximately four weeks.

    “Saving taxpayers money, reducing energy costs, and protecting the environment all through the same project is a win all around.  I am pleased to support the Village of Great Neck in undertaking this innovative project which will benefit both the Great Neck community and the environment,” said Senator Martins. 

    “It has been over twenty-five years since the Village of Great Neck has undergone a street lighting project. With ever growing energy costs and tax increases it is the right time to take advantage of the advancements that have been made in lighting technology.  The upgraded LED fixtures are energy efficient and low maintenance and will result in substantial cost savings to our taxpayers,” said Village of Great Neck Mayor Pedram Bral.
