Senator Martins Announces State Funding for Manhasset Public Library

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured $10,000 in state funding to support educational programs and initiatives at the Manhasset Public Library.

     The funds will support the creation of exhibits about local community history by the Library's History Center.  Its newest exhibit, “Life Around Manhasset Bay” will use photos and artifacts to teach about industry around local harbors (whaling, fishing, shipbuilding and marinas), recreation (including the local sailing and yacht clubs) and historic homes and their owners.  Previous exhibits have included a veterans history exhibit which taught about Manhasset residents who served our Country throughout its history, which was also supported through funding secured by Senator Martins, and an exhibit about the history of Plandome's Boy Scout Troop 71.

     “Manhasset, like all Long Island communities, has a rich history which must be preserved for future generations.  The Manhasset Public Library has done a fantastic job in putting together creative exhibits that teach residents about the history of their community.  These funds will help the Library continue its good work,” said Senator Martins.

     “The Manhasset Public Library and the community we serve are most grateful for the ongoing support of Senator Martins. Through the funding awarded by the Senator, we have been able to continue our MPL History Center projects. We are very fortunate to have elected officials like Senator Jack Martins whose understanding and foresight strengthen commitments to libraries and the future of our community,” said Manhasset Public Library Director Maggie Gough.
