Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) today helped bring some extra holiday cheer to children in Winthrop-University Hospital by delivering over 2,000 toys he collected through his annual holiday toy drive.
“Watching a child’s eyes light up when they get a new toy is one of the best parts of the holiday season. When children are in the hospital, the gift of a new toy can really lift their spirits during a tough time. The community’s continued generosity will bring happiness to families in their time of need. Thanks to everyone who participated in this program,” said Senator Martins.
Students from 12 local schools, patrons of one local library, and residents from across Senator Martins’ Senate District collected and donated the toys. The schools and libraries who participated in Senator Martins’ toy drive are:
- Center Street School (Herricks School District)
- Cherry Lane Elementary School (Carle Place School District)
- Floral Park-Bellerose School (Floral Park-Bellerose School District)
- Great Neck North Middle School (Great Neck School District)
- Hillside Grade School (New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District)
- Hillside Public Library (New Hyde Park)
- John Lewis Childs School (Floral Park-Bellerose School District)
- Manhasset Secondary School (Manhasset School District)
- New Hyde Park Memorial High School (Sewanhaka Central High School District)
- Parkville Elementary School (Great Neck School District)
- Rushmore Avenue School (Carle Place School District)
- Searingtown Elementary School (Herricks School District)

"The Senator's visit is always a highlight here at Winthrop, and we appreciate all of the support from the community that goes behind this tremendous effort," said John F. Collins, President and CEO of Winthrop-University Hospital. "The generosity that is extended to our Child Life Program as a result of this holiday toy drive ensures smiles on our patients' faces last the whole year through."
