Senator Martins Delivers State Funding for Public Safety Improvements in North Hempstead

            Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured $65,000 in new state funding for public safety improvements in the Town of North Hempstead.  The Town will use the funding to purchase additional radar activated speed signs to help reduce speeding in communities throughout North Hempstead. 

            “As we have seen all too often, speed kills.  Speeding is a public safety concern for residents in every corner of the town.  Working in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead, we delivered speed awareness signs for one important purpose; combating speeding by encouraging drivers to slow down.  With this new funding, we can expand this program and purchase more signs to address speeding at additional locations throughout the Town,” said Senator Martins.

            The speed awareness signs utilize radar to show drivers their speed as they pass by, and flash red if the driver is exceeding the speed limit.  Last year, Senator Martins secured funding for the Town to purchase more than two dozen of the signs, in coordination with a number of local villages, to help control speeding.  This grant will allow the Town to purchase additional signs for use at additional locations.

           “We are so grateful to Senator Martins for advocating for these funds that will be used to help purchase additional radar speed signs for our Town and village streets. I’ve heard from many residents who say that these signs are a good reminder to slow down, which goes a long way to making our streets safer for drivers and pedestrians,” said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth.
