Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) has secured $25,000 in state funding for The Safe Center LI. The funding will be used to help cover costs associated with providing comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and programs to prevent domestic abuse.
“When someone is victimized by a family member or intimate partner, they must be able to access help to deal with the physical and emotional trauma. The Safe Center LI provides a wide array of services to victims of domestic violence in their time of need, as well programs to help combat this all too prevalent crime. This funding will help support that important work,” said Senator Martins.
The Safe Center LI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect, assist and empower victims of family violence and sexual assault while challenging and changing social systems that tolerate and perpetuate abuse. Located at the former Grumman complex in Bethpage, the Center offers a broad spectrum of services, including counseling, advocacy, housing for victims and community educational programs. The Safe Center operates a hotline (516-542-0404) which provides help with domestic/dating abuse, rape and sexual assault, and crisis intervention 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Thanks to Senator Martins’ efforts, The Safe Center will be able to help more families to be safe and to heal from the traumas they have experienced as we work to make every home a safe home. We are very grateful for his help,” said Sandy Oliva, the Center’s Co-Executive Director.
