Senator Martins Joins Port Washington Water District in Urging Residents to “Be Smart and Green, Save 15”

            Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District, pictured standing back left) recently helped the Port Washington Water District kick off its “Be Smart and Green, Save 15” water conservation campaign.

            The “Be Smart and Green, Save 15” campaign aims to reduce the District’s water consumption by 15 percent during the summer months, when demand is at its peak.  The campaign informs residents about simple steps they can take to conserve water and help the District meet its goal.  Senator Martins and other community leaders, including Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth,  North Hempstead Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio, Flower Hill Mayor Elaine Phillips, Baxter Estates Mayor Nora Haagenson, and Manorhaven Trustee John Popeleski, joined the District in announcing the initiative and encouraging residents to support it.

            “When it comes to conserving water, minor effort makes a major difference,” said Senator Martins.  “By following a few simple steps, residents can significantly reduce consumption and protect one of our most important natural resources. The Port Washington community has historically been a leader in efforts to protect our water; I am confident it will be again by coming together and supporting the Port Washington Water District’s ‘Be Smart and Green, Save 15’ effort.”
