Senator Martins, South Nassau Communities Hospital & Elmont School District to Sponsor Free Prostate Cancer Screening Program

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), in partnership with South Nassau Communities Hospital and the Elmont School District, will be holding a free prostate cancer screening program and informational seminar on Wednesday, October 5th. The program will take place from 5:30 pm -7:45 pm at the Dutch Broadway School (1880 Dutch Broadway, Elmont).
Screenings will be conducted by South Nassau Communities Hospital. Their guidelines for the program are as follows:
- Screenings consist of a PSA blood test only;
- Screenings are recommended for men ages 50 and over, unless there is a family history of prostate cancer, in which case they can be screened before age 50;
- Participants and their health care provider will be notified of the exam results. Men should bring the name and address of the health care provider to whom they would like the results sent;
- Participants must bring a photo ID with them to the screening.
PSA screenings will take place from 5:30 to 6:45 pm. Dr. Michael Herman, a Uro-Oncologist, will speak on “What you should know about prostate cancer” from 7 pm-7:45 pm.
