Senator Martins Statement on CUNY's DSC Vote Embracing Anti-Semitic Group
April 16, 2016
"Last night, CUNY's Doctoral Student Council (DSC) passed a resolution demanding an academic boycott for Israeli academic institutions and expressing its support for the anti-Semitic organization Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) which has committed hateful, anti-Semitic acts at several CUNY campuses. This after scheduling the vote on the same day as the Jewish Sabbath at a time when observant Jews could not attend to voice their opposition.
DSC's shameful display sent a message that they not only condone SJP's abhorrent behavior against Jewish students and faculty, they fully embrace it. CUNY must send a stronger one in response by suspending SJP and showing that CUNY will not tolerate violence and hatred. It's long overdue."
