COBLESKILL, 08/12/16 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today joined officials from the Village of Cobleskill to announce a $100,000 state grant to help fund repairs at the village pool in Iorio Park..
“Iorio Park is a recreation beacon in the Village of Cobleskill and the facilities help enhance the local quality of life for residents and visitors alike,” said Senator Seward. “Swimming is terrific for good health and fitness and it is a skill that can be a life saver. I am extremely pleased to partner with Mayor Holmes and the entire village to ensure that the community pool will continue to serve the public without sinking the village budget.”
In 2015, while filling the pool, the 14 year-old liner ripped forcing the village to close the pool for the season. Rather than repair an already aging liner, the village instead opted for a replacement, however, after spending a considerable sum on repairs to the pool pumphouse funding was scarce.
Village of Cobleskill Mayor Linda V. Holmes said, “The people of Cobleskill are incredibly grateful to Senator Seward for his support of the pool repair project at Iorio Park. The village pool is an important community asset and thanks to Senator Seward we were able to make these repairs without placing an additional burden on village taxpayers.”
Village of Cobleskill Pool Manager Julie Mullaney said, “It is terrific to once again see swimmers of all ages and abilities in the water at the village pool. Senator Seward’s support is definitely appreciated, especially on a hot summer day.”
“In the midst of the summer heat, there is nothing better than a dip in the pool, and hey who knows – a future Olympic champion like Michael Phelps or Katie Ledecky could get their start right here in the Cobleskill village pool,” Seward concluded.
The Cobleskill village pool is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:00-6:00 pm; Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00-5:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-5:00 pm; Tuesday and Thursday evening swim from 6:00-8:00 pm.
