ONEONTA, 10/16/16 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced a special state grant of $20,000 to support the Center for Continuing Adult Learning (CCAL) which offers a wide range of classes to adults from Otsego, Delaware, and Schoharie counties.
“The Center for Continuing Adult Learning (CCAL) is a beneficial community resource that enhances lives in so many ways,” said Senator Seward. “This state grant will allow the non-profit organization to expand course offerings and reach more individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to take classes.”
CCAL Board of Directors President Alice Cannistra said, “Senator Seward is a champion of education for all age groups. CCAL provides wonderful, diverse learning opportunities for adults and those opportunities will grow considerably thanks to this grant. We truly appreciate Senator Seward’s support.”
The grant funds provided by Senator Seward will support scholarships for individuals who are unable to afford the CCAL membership fee. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be used for needed office equipment and to establish new classes.
“CCAL, and similar adult learning programs, boost our quality of life and are among the many reasons people choose to live here. For retirees or newcomers to the region, CCAL provides a great social and learning network, and I am pleased to help expand the program’s reach,” Seward concluded.
The Center for Continuing Adult Learning (CCAL) is a non-profit membership organization now in its 23rd year and is an affiliate of the Road Scholar Institute Network. Between 80-100 courses are offered throughout the year encompassing a wide range of topics including art, travel, cooking, local history, music, literature, self-defense, and gardening. Most courses meet on the campuses of SUNY-Oneonta and Hartwick College. CCAL maintains offices on the second floor of The Frances Rowe House, 31 Maple Street, Oneonta.
