Water Improvement Grants Flow to 51st Senate District

ONEONTA, 08/15/16 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today applauded the announcement of state grants and low or no interest loans for municipal water infrastructure improvement projects in the 51^st Senate District:

“Quality water is something people expect when they turn on the faucet and it is a crucial component of our local economic development efforts.  However, the municipalities I represent are already stretched thin, and major water system upgrades just aren’t in the budget for most.  By utilizing state funds, these vital infrastructure improvement projects will move forward without overburdening taxpayers.”

As part of the 2016-17 state budget, the legislature increased the governor’s proposed water infrastructure improvement funding by $100 million for a total of $400 million over three years.

Grants announced today include:

CORTLAND COUNTY

• City of Cortland - $1.38 million grant and a $920,000 loan for a $2.3 million drinking water project;

DELAWARE COUNTY

• Village of Sidney - $3 million grant and a $5,852,683 loan for a $8,852,683 drinking water project;
• Village of Stamford - $2,960,400 grant for a $4,934,000 drinking water project.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of previously announced grants:

HERKIMER COUNTY

• Town of Herkimer - $1,020,000 grant and a $680,000 loan for a $1.7 million drinking water project;
• Town of Stark - $360,000 grant and a $240,000 loan for a $600,000 drinking water project;

OTSEGO COUNTY

• City of Oneonta - $1.2 million grant and a $800,000 loan for a $2 million drinking water project;
• Town of Oneonta - $1 million grant and a $3 million loan for a $6 million drinking water project;
• own of Worcester - $147,000 grant for a $245,000 drinking water project;

SCHOHARIE COUNTY

• Central Bridge Water District - $1 million grant and a $2 million loan for a $5 million drinking water project;
• Village of Cobleskill - $2,899,800 grant and a $1,933, loan for a $4,833,000 drinking water project;
• Village of Sharon Springs - $409,900 grant and a $1,229,700 loan for a $1,639,600 clean water project.
