Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway), held a toy giveaway on December 21, 2016 conducted in partnership with the Rochdale Early Advantage Charter School and Toys for Tots - We Care New York, Inc. Dozens of children attended with their parents and other family members. Some people traveled from as far away as Brooklyn to attend. The toys included dolls, board games, and miniature cars.
"This is a joyous and special time of year, when people embrace the spirit of giving the most," Sanders said. "While we are celebrating with our families and friends, we cannot forget about those less fortunate, especially children, who may not get a gift this year. With this holiday toy giveaway, I hope I made the season a little brighter for some of our young people."
In addition to the toys donated by Toys for Tots, children ages 5 and older, who are students at the Rochdale Early Advantage Charter School, where the event was held, each wrapped and donated a toy to someone in need.
Senator Sanders also held a toy drive at the Locust Manor Family Residence on December 16, 2016 and will hold another such event on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2016 at the Dred Surfer Grill, 16-27 Seagirt Boulevard in Far Rockaway.
