Sanders Distributes Webcams to PS 160; Plans to Invite NASA to the District

Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village) continued his mission of ensuring that schools in his Senate District are technologically equipped for 21st Century communications by delivering hundreds of webcams to PS 160 in Jamaica on Friday. 

Sanders pledged a total of 3,000 cameras to School Districts 27, 28 and 29 and has been distributing them incrementally, visiting with students and teachers along the way to explain the importance of using the technology and promising that this is just the beginning.

Senator Sanders plans to invite NASA to the district, and he told students at PS 160 that they should prepare to become the next generation of astronauts, adding that they might one day walk on Mars.

"Someone is going to do it," Sanders said. "Why not someone from our district?"

Sanders also stressed the importance of having a healthy mind and body in order to be prepared for a technologically advanced future, one that might include space travel. 

Dozens of students filled the auditorium at PS 160 and waited with wonder and excitement as the cameras were delivered by Senator Sanders who carted in several boxes full at a time using a hand truck.

In appreciation of Senator Sanders' donation, students from PS 160's drama club, coordinated by teacher, Lisa Bell,  performed a scene from Disney's Aladdin, which included the song "Friend Like Me."

The school's principal, Tiffany Hicks, and School Superintendent Mabel Muniz-Sarduy praised Sanders' contribution, with Muniz-Sarduy adding that the new webcams presented endless possibilities.
