Senator James Sanders Jr. Gives Away 1,000 School Supplies in Jamaica
August 29, 2016
State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) today gave out 1,000 school supplies in the parking lot outside of the Walgreens at the corner of Guy R. Brewer and Baisley boulevards in Jamaica.
The items included backpacks, compositions books, spiral notebooks and loose leaf paper. Many residents attended the three-hour event and students from kindergarten to high school age received supplies.
"Today we did what we do best - serve the people," Senator Sanders said. "It is rewarding to know that these students will head back to school a little more prepared thanks to the supplies they received today.”
One of the attendees, Shavonne Haughton of Jamaica, who brought her two children, Shantel, 7, and Shawn, 4, to pick up supplies, praised the event and said she was glad they attended.
“This is a beautiful event,” Haughton said. “They are so excited to go back to school.”
Senator Sanders' Office would like to thank our sponsor Walgreens for providing the supplies and DJ Infinite for donating his time to play music at the event.
