Senator James Sanders, Jr. (D-Rochdale Village) is proud to announce that St. John's Episcopal Hospital will be awarded $10.15 million in state funding.
As part of Governor Cuomo's $1.5 billion commitment to fund 162 projects statewide, New York City was allocated $672.9 million in grants to dramatically transform and improve the delivery of health care. Sanders has been working closely with the Department of Health and St. John's Episcopal Hospital, which was awarded Co-location of Primary Care, Mental Health and Emergency Room funding.
"St. John's is the only hospital in my district, and indeed, all of Rockaway," Sanders explained. "Having reliable health care services is literally a matter of life and death. This funding will go a long way in ensuring St. John's is better prepared to meet our increasingly high demands."
While awards were initially announced on March 4 of this year, they were subject to approval by the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC). Sanders learned today that OSC has approved the package and the Department of Health can now begin discussions to enter into a contract with St. John's Episcopal Hospital. The senator will continue to work with all the stakeholders throughout the process.
The funding is being appropriated through the Capital Restructuring Financing Program and Essential Health Care Provider Support Program. Both were created to support the Delivery System Reform Incentive Program, whose goals include decreasing health care costs and reducing avoidable hospital admissions and emergency room visits by 25 percent over the next four years. |
