Klein Recognizes Bronx Veteran for his Outstanding Service
ALBANY, NY – Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced that Bronx veteran, Jim Mullarkey, was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Albany on Tuesday.
Captain Jim Mullarkey served in the U.S. Army Special Forces and Airborne in Vietnam. On his first tour, he had served in 77th Special Forces and then in the 82nd Airborne Division on his second tour. Captain Mullarkey joined the United States Parachute Team and finished in second place at France at La Fete de Gauche in 1969. As a tribute to fallen soldier Joe Dunne, he parachuted into Van Cortlandt Park carrying Dunne’s burial flag.
Captain Mullarkey, who currently serves as Commander of the Catholic War Veterans, continues to pay tribute to his fellow veterans. Over the years, he has provided dignified funeral services for 48 indigent veterans as a final salute to the brave men and women.
“Today we salute our brave service men and women, who have made extraordinary sacrifices for our country. I am extremely proud to honor Jim Mullarkey, a true American hero. Jim’s unwavering commitment to his fellow veterans is inspiring, and his courageous acts have contributed America’s freedom,” said Senator Klein.
“I have enjoyed working with Senator Klein for the past twenty years on veteran issues and projects. It is a pleasure to have been selected for this honor, and I am especially dedicated to paying homage to indigent veterans. I look forward to working further with Senator Klein,” said Captain Jim Mullarkey.
Established in 2005, the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame honors and recognizes outstanding service members from New York who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.
