Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) and Senator Carl Marcellino (5th Senate District) announced today that they have joined together to secure $1,000,000 in state grant funding for the Town of Huntington for parking lot updates. The funding will be used by the Town to refurbish a parking lot that serves members of the community.
The improvements that the Town will undertake will be made to the town-owned parking lot located at the John J. Flanagan Memorial Activity Center, which is immediately adjacent to the YMCA. This will provide better parking for those who use the town programs including the Senior Citizen Center, Senior Day Care Center and other town programs and services as well as those who enjoy the Cinema Arts Center and the Huntington YMCA.
“Enhancing the safety of the parking lot for the YMCA members and program participants will help the YMCA continue to be the center of the Huntington community. I am proud to be able to facilitate this grant so that they can continue to provide programs that encourages youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility,” said Senator Marcellino
"Huntington is a wonderful town that we are both so honored to represent. That is why we are proud to partner together to secure this funding for the Town to help them complete this important project. This funding will help ensure residents are able to continue to easily access the YMCA and other facilities so that everyone can enjoy the great quality of life Huntington has to offer,” stated Senator Flanagan.
This coordinated effort by Senators Flanagan and Marcellino will assist the Town in continuing their strong cooperative working relationship with the YMCA by helping to accommodate the Y's members and guests, particularly as the YMCA undergoes its own renovations and expansion.
“We are grateful for the advocacy of Senators Flanagan and Marcellino on this project. As leaders in our community who deeply care about the safety and well-being of the people in the Town of Huntington, this funding presents the Huntington YMCA, Cinema Arts and the town programs and services housed in the John J. Flanagan Memorial Activity Center with the opportunity to serve an even greater population”, said Anne N. Brigis, President and CEO of the YMCA of Long Island.
"The Flanagan Center is heavily used by seniors, youth, YMCA members and Cinema Arts Center patrons and this funding will add much needed parking. I thank Senators Flanagan and Marcellino for obtaining the funding to help make this project a reality," stated Town of Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone.
"I would like to personally thank Senator Flanagan and Senator Marcellino in working together to secure this grant that will allow the Town of Huntington to upgrade the parking area for the John J. Flanagan Memorial Activity Center, Cinema Arts and the Huntington YMCA. These facilities are treasure for the Huntington residents as their programs are available to individuals of all ages; but most importantly are used by our youth and seniors to enhance their quality of life. This grant will allow the Town of Huntington to remain the wonderful place for families to call home," stated Councilman Eugene Cook.
