Senator Serrano Applauds Governor Cuomo's Commitment to Environmental Protection Fund
January 5, 2016
(Albany, NY) - Senator Jose M. Serrano applauded Governor Andrew Cuomo for his proposal to substantially increase funding for the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) to $300 million. If enacted, the proposal would result in the highest amount of funding in state history for the EPF. The EPF provides much needed funding to protect and create parkland and green spaces throughout New York State.
“Governor Cuomo's steadfast commitment to the EPF and our state's environment is evident in today's historic announcement. By substantially increasing the much needed funding for the EPF, our state can ensure that we maintain viable parks and green spaces, along with a cleaner environment, for generations to come. In addition to the EPF's benefits for our environmental sustainability, the EPF is an economic engine, helping to spur jobs, tourism and economic activity. Throughout my career in public office I have been a vocal advocate for our environment, parks and open spaces and as the Ranking Member on the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks & Recreation, I know the importance of protecting and investing in the recreational spaces that are vital to the health and economic future of New York State.”
