Senator Serrano is the co-sponsor of Senate Bill S485 which would require the labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in foods. Very often we unknowingly consume foods that contain ingredients derived from GMOs intended to enhance the taste and/or appearance of the food. Unfortunately, there can be unintended consequences from GMO enhanced foods, including health threats. This legislation is a practical approach to ensuring that we all know what we are consuming.
"I believe that we all should have the right to make informed decisions on the foods we buy and consume. In addition, I understand the importance of providing a safe and healthy meal to my family and I do not want my children or yours to experience any health problems because the ingredients in food were not clearly labeled. This session I will continue to fight for this bill and work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get it passed."
