Senator Serrano gave the opening remarks while co-hosting an immigration fraud roundtable hosted by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Serrano was also joined by fellow co-hosts Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson & Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner. The important discussion focused on ways to protect the Bronx's immigrant community from predatory schemes.
"For generations, hardworking immigrants in New York have been part of our cultural fabric - raising families and helping to keep our neighborhoods and economy growing. Unfortunately many new immigrants fall victim to fraud and scams as they try to attain immigration services. Thanks to the office of New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, and my colleagues Council Member Vanessa L. Gibson and Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner, we convened a community roundtable yesterday in the Bronx to help address the growing problem of immigration services fraud. Throughout my career in public office I have been committed to protecting our immigrant community in East Harlem and the South Bronx, and I'm so grateful to be working with my colleagues and Attorney General Schneiderman to help protect this hardworking yet vulnerable community."
