The New York State Senate passed Senator Jose M. Serrano's Bronx Children's Museum legislation, S.05859. This bill will authorize the New York City parks department to allow the Bronx Children's museum to operate within Mill Pond Park in the borough of the Bronx.
The Bronx Children's Museum is an educational initiative designed to serve all children and families within the Bronx. The Bronx Children's Museum launched in 2006 as a series of traveling inspiring programs for children and their families to learn more about the world in which they live. Senator Serrano's legislation will allow the museum to have a permanent home in Mill Pond Park starting in 2017.
"The days of the Bronx being the only borough without a children's museum are over. I am happy to be able to help secure a permanent home for another fine cultural institution in the Bronx. This museum will provide children and families a fun and educational place to explore their curiosity through multiple innovative exhibits."
This bill has also passed the New York State Assembly, where it was sponsored by Assemblymember Latoya Joyner. The bill will now be forwarded to the Desk of Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign into law.
