Senator Serrano presented Mrs. Lorraine Nanko with a proclamation honoring her for her extraord inar y service to the community as a teacher at Cardinal Hayes High School for the last 46 years. Mrs. Nanko arrived at the renowned Cardinal Hayes Memorial H.S. for Boys in the fall of 1969, and taught music appreciation, as well as the Cardinal Singers, the school's chorale group. She was the Musical Director for the school's annual theatrical productions for 36 years.
"I had the pleasure of honoring Mrs. Lorraine Nanko for her 46 years of service to Cardinal Hayes High School as their music and fine arts director. Mrs Nanko was recognized with numerous tributes on the occasion of her retirement during today's Spring Concert & Art Exhibition at Hayes. She's been a fixture at Cardinal Hayes for many generations of Hayesmen, enriching our community while overseeing the many musical and theatrical performances that happen every year at Hayes. As a former Hayesman myself, I'd like to thank Mrs. Nanko for proving each and every day how critically important the arts and culture are to the education of young people, and how they help build brighter futures for all of us."
