Addabbo Calls on Mayor to Respond to Concerns Regarding Maspeth Homeless Shelter Proposal
September 16, 2016
Howard Beach, NY (September 16, 2016) As he continues to fight an ill-advised proposal to convert a Maspeth hotel into a homeless shelter, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is urging Mayor Bill de Blasio to provide answers to the many concerns he and his constituents have raised over the last several weeks.
Despite personally attending two public town halls, as well as multiple meetings with city officials, including Department of Homeless Services Commissioner Steven Banks, Addabbo has yet to receive a firm answer from the de Blasio administration regarding the status of the proposal to convert the Holiday Inn Express, located at 59-40 55th Road, into a shelter for homeless adults. The lack of transparency from the Mayor’s office has led to numerous pieces of false information being distributed throughout the community, causing the real status of the plan to remain unknown by those it would affect the most.
In a letter sent to the Mayor this week, Addabbo is urging the City to formally respond to several issues the community has raised surrounding this proposal and make a better effort to communicate accurate information to the public as it is discovered.
