Howard Beach, NY (April 18, 2016) After a long and persistent effort, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is thrilled to announce the placement of decorative light posts in certain areas of Glendale, a project funded by state monies he protected.
Initially requested by local residents, Addabbo sought to protect the funds allocated for the lighting project since 2009. Over the last few weeks, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) began installing the black decorative lamp posts on 88th Street and on surrounding roads in place of the standard gray posts that stood before.
“The funding and installation of decorative lighting in Glendale is something for which I have advocated for many years now,” said Addabbo. “I am thrilled to finally see the cooperative efforts of my office, constituents and the city result in this new lighting. By following through with this funding request from the community, it proves to New Yorkers everywhere that every issue brought to light is important and can be successfully addressed with the right combination of hard work, determination and patience. These decorative lights will add to the charm and character that Glendale already possesses, and I thank Serf Maltese for the original allocation and the NYC DOT for finally using the funds to make this project a reality.”
In addition to the decorative lights that have already gone up along 88th Street, DOT plans to install these posts along 74th Avenue from 88th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard, Rutledge Avenue from 88th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard, and Doran Avenue from 88th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard. The agency expects the total cost of the project to be around $487,000.
