Howard Beach, NY (August 18, 2016) In his ongoing effort to help protect environment and assist his constituents dispose of unwanted electronics, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. will host an e-waste recycling event in Rockaway next month to offer residents a chance to safely and legally dispose of their electronics.

Addabbo, a member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, will partner with the Lower East Side Ecology Center to hold a free event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 10, at the St. Camillus Church parking lot in Rockaway, located at 99-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. The items that are brought to this event will be carefully discarded in ways that will not harm the environment, rather than being dealt with improperly and thrown away with garbage, dangerously ending up in our landfills.

“As we work to find ways to continue helping our planet, it is crucial that we all make sure we are properly disposing of electronics,” said Addabbo. “When electronic equipment like computers and televisions are thrown away, it puts the environment at risk of being contaminated by hazardous chemicals and materials inside those items. This event gives everyone a free way to safely, responsibly and legally get rid of the electronics they no longer want and leaves us feeling satisfied knowing that we did the right thing to protect our Earth from further harm. I thank the Lower East Side Ecology Center for working with me on this great community event.

This year’s event in Rockaway will mark the second year in a row the Senator has sponsored an e-waste collection on the peninsula, making it more convenient for residents across Rockaway to ensure their electronic waste is properly taken care of.

The event will offer residents a chance to get rid of items such as computers, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, cables, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, phones, audio/visual equipment, cell phones, PDAs and other common electronics. There is no charge to dispose of these items. Air conditioners will not be accepted. Cars should enter the parking lot on Beach 99th Street and circle around to exit at Beach 100th Street.
