New York State Senator Joe Robach and Assemblyman Peter Lawrence are proud to announce the official unveiling and dedication of the U.S. Navy Seabee Parkway on Thursday, November 3, 2016. Robach and Lawrence sponsored legislation that was recently signed into law by the Governor, designating a portion of the Lake Ontario State Parkway in the Town of Greece as the U.S. Navy Seabee Parkway.
“With Veterans Day right around the corner, it is fitting that we are dedicating a portion of the Lake Ontario State Parkway to the men and women who have served our Country and proudly call themselves the Navy Seabees,” said Robach. “I was pleased to work with Assemblyman Lawrence to get this legislation passed, a small token of our appreciation for the work and sacrifice of the U.S. Navy Seabees and all of our Nation’s veterans.”
Founded shortly after the attacks on Pearl Harbor, the Seabees served in the European and Pacific fronts building airstrips, bridges, roads, warehouse, hospitals and houses to aid U.S. forces. Since World War II, the Seabees have continued to serve the United States Navy, fighting and building in Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Kuwait. In addition to their efforts during wartime, the Seabees have helped rebuild thousands of communities across the global with their peacetime labor efforts.
“Since 1942, the U.S. Navy Seabees have carried out a proud tradition of building the infrastructures that have allowed our military men and women to take the fight to our enemies. From the islands in the Pacific to the mountains in Afghanistan, the Seabees have built and fought for our Country. Their motto, “Can Do” is testament to the resiliency of these unsung heroes. I am pleased that their hard-work and service to our Country is being recognized by this highway designation,” added Assemblyman Lawrence.
"The Navy Seabee Veterans of America are proud to have a section of the Ontario State Parkway dedicated to the U.S. Navy Seabees. The Seabees are a little known segment of the Navy and receive little recognition outside of their own units. It is a great honor and privilege for all Seabees and their supporting shipmates to be recognized in this manner. With the 75th Seabee birthday coming up next spring, the timing couldn't be better! A big thank you to Joe Robach and Peter Lawrence for making this event possible,” said Frank Dorobiala, a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees.
The official unveiling took place on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the pavilion at Braddock Bay Park, 199 E. Manitou Rd, Rochester, NY 14612. Upon completion, signs will be displayed along a portion of the Lake Ontario State Parkway commemorating the dedication of the U.S. Navy Seabee Parkway.
