Senator Robach Honors Dr. Lesli Myers as NYS Woman of Distinction

Senator Joe Robach is pleased to announce that Dr. Lesli C. Myers has been recognized with the New York State Senate’s 2016 Woman of Distinction Award in Albany.

Dr. Myers currently serves as Superintendent of Schools in the Brockport Central School District, and has previously served as an Assistant Superintendent Specialist, and High School Counselor during her career with the Rochester City School District. Additionally, she has worked as an adjunct professor at Roberts Wesleyan College, St. John Fisher College and Syracuse University. She was the first African-American President of the New York State School Counselor Association.

Dr. Myers has a passion and heart for young people. She has conducted numerous local, regional and national workshops and presentations to elementary and secondary students, undergraduate and graduate students, administrators, teachers, pupil personnel staff, and for profit and non-profit organizations. Dr. Myers’ presentational style is humorous, straightforward, sincere, and she encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to creatively use their abilities and talents to eliminate achievement gaps.

“I am proud to honor Dr. Lesli Myers for all of the wonderful contributions and leadership she has brought to the Brockport Central School District and the Brockport community,” said Senator Robach. “Her passion for the students, parents, teachers and administrators of BCSD is unquestionable, and her unwavering support has helped guide the district and ensure positive student achievement throughout her tenure. She is certainly a most deserving ‘Woman of Distinction’ from the 56^th Senate District.” 

Dr. Myers has been the recipient of many prestigious honors that reflect her dedication to education and the community, including; the Rochester Business Journal 40 Under 40, St. John Fisher Distinguished Alumni Award, Urban League of Rochester Educator Award and 2016 Athena Award Finalist.

“I am both honored and humbled to be selected as a Woman of Distinction Award recipient. I am driven by my passion to graduate each student equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in college or a career,” said Dr. Myers. “This recognition inspires me to continue striving to provide the highest caliber of education to the students in my district. I would like to express my gratitude to Senator Joseph Robach for presenting me with this prestigious award.”

The “Woman of Distinction” program was created in 1998 as part of the Senate’s celebration of Women’s History Month and honors New York women who exemplify personal excellence, or whose professional achievements or act of courage, selflessness, integrity or perseverance serve as an example to all New Yorkers.

Dr. Myers was recognized in a special ceremony on Tuesday, May 10 at the State Capitol in Albany. Her photograph and biography will be displayed in a public exhibit proclaiming the special contributions of exemplary New York women.
