BROOKLYN, NY (5/9) – On Friday, May 6th State Senator Kevin Parker held his 5th Annual Educational Leadership Award Breakfast Ceremony in partnership with Healthfirst at the Grand Prospect Hall in Park Slope, Brooklyn. For the fifth year in a row, over 200 community members came together to honor various educational leaders in the 21st Senate District and the larger Brooklyn community. George Hulse, Vice President, of Community Engagement at Healthfirst, served as the MC for the event and New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer delivered the keynote address.
“Every day, parents of schoolchildren, principals, teachers, and other academic professionals go above and beyond the call to ensure our children receive the best education possible,” said New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer. “These individuals deserve to be celebrated every day of the year and I’m glad Senator Parker has brought us together today to give them the recognition they deserve.”
“It is with great pleasure that I take the time to celebrate the educators in our community for the hard work and dedication they pour into our students each and everyday,” said Senator Kevin Parker. Over 100 Legislative Resolutions were issued at the event to “educators” ranging from Principals and Parent Coordinators to School Safety Agents and nurses, whose obligation and care for students provides parents and families with a powerful voice on behalf of every child.
For the first time, the event honored various non- profit organizations such as Ifetayo Cultural Arts and Queen Geniuses for the essential role they play in supplementing the education of our youth. Senator Parker has always recognized the positive effects of Beacon Schools and their afterschool and weekend programs on students, their families, and the school community. Today, he has legislation in the State Senate that will make every public school a Beacon School, and the acknowledgement of local community based providers speaks to his commitment to improving the lives of children and families across New York State.
