Senator Kevin Parker’s Statement on Governor Cuomo’s Proposal to Increase Opportunities For Minority and Women-Owned Businesses
January 12, 2016
Brooklyn, NY (1/12/2016) – Senator Kevin Parker released the following statement today re: Governor Cuomo’s MWBE Proposal:
“Minority and Women - Owned Businesses have been the backbone of our community for years, and this proposal will allow more MWBEs to increase their revenue and grow, while providing gainful employment opportunities for New Yorkers.
“Governor Cuomo’s bold proposal not only ensures access to procurement opportunities for minority and women- owned businesses that want to do business with New York State, it ups the ante as it holds state agencies, authorities, and municipalities accountable for hiring a more diverse ethnic pool. This compliance component will help to combat the systematic discrimination that unfortunately, has been at the heart of the old procurement process.
"I applaud the Governor for taking a firm stand for New York’s minority and women owned businesses, and I am eager to work with him and my legislative colleges to ensure we not only meet the 30 percent goal, but to exceed it.”
